For fans of the beloved Digimon franchise, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is shaping up to be an event not to be missed. With a slew of new announcements and updates on the horizon, one teaser in particular has sparked considerable intrigue: an image of a puzzled Renamon alongside a mobile phone.
The teaser has led many to speculate that a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG) might be on the way. Given that Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android, the idea of a mobile TCG isn't far-fetched, especially in the wake of the successful launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket. However, it's worth tempering our excitement; the teaser might simply be hinting at using a mobile device to watch the upcoming livestream rather than announcing a new mobile platform for the TCG.

Going Digital
While Digimon holds a special place in the hearts of many, especially among nostalgic anime fans, it has often lived in the shadow of the juggernaut that is Pokémon. In the late '90s and early 2000s, the two franchises were in direct competition, but Pokémon has since claimed the global pop culture crown. A digital TCG for Digimon wouldn't be an easy victory, but it wouldn't be a risky move either. The Digimon TCG still enjoys a dedicated fanbase, and expanding its reach to more players could be a significant achievement. We'll have to wait and see what unfolds at the Digimon Con livestream later this month.
