Get ready, Guardian! Bungie has just announced an exciting lineup for Destiny 2 under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four significant content releases, including two paid expansions and two major updates that will enhance the game for both paying and free players.
First off, the "Rite of the Nine" update is already available to all players at no extra cost. This update offers a fresh take on dungeon diving, suitable for both seasoned and new players. You'll explore familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, but with unique twists. Expect to reconnect with Orin and enjoy refreshed dungeon weapons that add a new layer of excitement to your adventures.
On July 15, the first paid expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, will launch. This expansion kicks off a multiyear saga centered around the mysterious Nine, beings who predate the Traveler. You'll meet new ally Lodi and the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora, as they take center stage. The expansion introduces a new destination, Kepler, inspired by the puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges found in Destiny 2’s dungeons. Kepler encourages deep exploration and player-driven discovery, complete with new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.
Simultaneously, on July 15, major core game innovations will be introduced. These include revised armor and gear systems to enhance buildcrafting opportunities and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen allows players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the newly introduced Solo Ops. Fireteam and Pinnacle Ops focus on quick and longer-form cooperative content, while Solo Ops are designed for solo players seeking short, self-contained gameplay sessions. Additionally, 50 new modifiers will offer deeper gameplay customization and greater challenges, with curated activity rotations ensuring there's always something new to pursue.
As with any new expansion, pre-order bonuses are available, including an instantly unlockable Exotic Ghost and Legendary Emblem. Here's a breakdown of the pre-order options:

On September 9, the second major update, Ash & Iron, will go live, followed by the second expansion, Renegades, on December 2. The year will conclude with the Shadow & Order major update on March 3.
Destiny 2: Renegades draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, merging Destiny’s distinctive storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements. This news comes as a welcome update to the community, especially after Bungie laid off 220 staff members in July 2024, following 100 layoffs less than a year earlier.
While Destiny 2 keeps Bungie busy, they are also working on the reboot of their classic franchise, Marathon. Recently, IGN provided a hands-on preview, expressing confidence that Marathon will satisfy the Bungie PvP itch when it launches on PC and consoles in September.
