Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you can encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This formidable creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it is particularly vulnerable to other elements, with water and ice being the most effective. The dragon's head is its most susceptible area, boasting a 4-star weakness. If targeting the head proves challenging, the wings offer a solid 3-star weakness as an alternative.
Avoid attacking the torso, as it's quite resilient. If you can't hit the head, consider targeting the tail instead. The legs are well-protected and less ideal for attacks. For status ailments, you can utilize everything except Stun and Paralysis, as these won’t affect Rey Dau due to its lightning element.
Use a Flash Pod
A strategic approach to swiftly down Rey Dau involves using a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, providing you an opportunity to land precise, damaging hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horns, which will glow bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict significant damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
Surviving Rey Dau's onslaught can be tough, so equipping element-resistant gear is crucial. The Hope Armor set is recommended due to its Divine Blessing skill, which minimizes damage intake. It also offers resistance to Lightning and Fire damage, making it perfect for this fight. Additionally, consider consuming a meal that boosts your elemental resistance.
If dodging proves difficult, position yourself near Rey Dau’s legs. The dragon primarily attacks areas in front and behind it, leaving its legs relatively safer.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau's mobility during the fight can change the dynamics of the battle. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps found on solitary trees to temporarily stun the monster. However, caution is advised when Rey Dau returns to its nest, as it employs a follow-up lightning attack that can easily stun you. Take your time and avoid rushing into risky situations.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

Instead of battling Rey Dau to the death, you can opt to capture it for additional rewards. To do this, reduce the dragon’s health until it's near death. A skull icon will appear near the monster’s icon on the mini-map, signaling it's time to set a trap.
Since Rey Dau is a lightning dragon, avoid using Shock Traps. Instead, deploy a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Immediately follow up with a Tranquilizer to prevent the creature from escaping. Timing is critical, so be prepared to act quickly.
