EA's lack of interest in a Dead Space 4 sequel has been revealed by series creator Glen Schofield in a recent interview with Dan Allen Gaming. The interview sheds light on the reasons behind the publisher's decision. EA's Current Stance on Dead Space 4
Future Hopes for a New Dead Space Game Remain
The possibility of a Dead Space 4 remains uncertain, potentially indefinitely delayed or cancelled. During the Dan Allen Gaming interview, Schofield, along with developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, confirmed EA's rejection of their proposal for a new installment in the acclaimed sci-fi horror series.
The discussion began when Stone recounted his son's enthusiasm for Dead Space, prompting a wish for a sequel. This led to the revelation that a pitch for Dead Space 4 was submitted to EA earlier this year, but the proposal was swiftly rejected. Schofield explained that EA's response was concise, indicating a lack of current interest. The developers respected EA's decision, acknowledging the publisher's focus on profitability and market data. Stone highlighted the current industry climate, characterized by risk aversion, particularly concerning established franchises.
Despite the setback, the positive reception of the recent Dead Space remake (89 on Metacritic and "Very Positive" on Steam) might seem like a strong argument for a sequel. However, EA's apparent unwillingness to take risks on established IPs suggests that the remake's success may not be enough to warrant a new entry.
However, the developers remain optimistic about the future of Dead Space 4. Stone expressed hope for a future release, a sentiment echoed by his colleagues. They possess numerous ideas and would eagerly return to the project given the opportunity. Currently, the team is not working together, each pursuing individual projects. Nevertheless, their ambition to revive the Dead Space franchise persists, leaving open the possibility of a future announcement.
