DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, calling the Season 2 premiere “one of my favorite things ever.” Accompanying the announcement was a brief glimpse of new footage featuring John Cena in action, complete with a characteristic smirk as flames blaze behind him. In the clip, Peacemaker is declared “a superhero now.”

The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, set to hit theaters on July 11, marking the official start of Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe (DCU). It will be the third project in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn, along with co-CEO Peter Safran, is steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will persist into the new DCU, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 will be fully integrated into the new DCU.
Gunn has previously mentioned that “many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes,” though the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU are still under wraps. He has confirmed that the entire *Team Peacemaker* will return with the original cast, including John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.Furthermore, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline directly impacting Peacemaker’s journey.
