NPC Studio's *Fields of Mistria* has garnered significant acclaim for its thoughtfully crafted marriage candidates and engaging dialogue, alongside its well-designed romance questlines. However, for those eager to dive into the romantic aspects of the game, the question remains: can you date the current romance options in *Fields of Mistria*?

As it stands, the short answer is no – at least not technically. Yet, as someone who has invested over 100 hours trying to win March's affection, I can assure you that the game's existing romance system remains a compelling feature, making the $13.99 price tag on Steam well worth it.
With *Fields of Mistria's* first major update in November 2024, the game increased its heart cap from four to six and introduced an additional heart event for each romanceable NPC, marking key relationship milestones. These events are unlocked at even intervals, with playable cutscenes available at two, four, and six hearts. NPC Studio has plans to add eight- and ten-heart events in future updates, although no specific dates or details have been announced beyond the upcoming March 2025 update, which will not include a higher heart level cap or new heart events.

While the idea of engaging in more quests around Mistria is exciting, new players might be disappointed by the current pause on romance development. Nevertheless, *Fields of Mistria's* romance system is impressive in its current form, largely thanks to the game's rich and realistic dialogue, which becomes satisfyingly flirty when it comes to romance options.
The same can be said for the existing heart events. Although early cutscenes might seem strictly platonic, they are ambiguous enough to allow for romantic interpretations, particularly in their settings. As your relationships progress, the romantic pacing in *Fields of Mistria* feels exceptionally rewarding, even without the ability to go on a proper date.

New players should not dismiss *Fields of Mistria* solely because of the inability to date. The last major update introduced the Shooting Star Festival, a summer-based event that allows you to initiate a date with eligible NPCs, provided you have reached four hearts with them. Currently, you can also spend the evening watching the stars with Caldarus, although this does not trigger a date at the Summit location as it does with other romance options. This might change with the game's March 2025 update, which aims to unlock the dragon's romance questline.
For now, while you may not be able to officially date NPCs in *Fields of Mistria*, there's certainly enough content to keep players engaged until the feature is fully implemented.
