According to Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. movie Coyote vs. Acme may still hit the screens thanks to ongoing negotiations with Los Angeles-based independent film company Ketchup Entertainment. While the deal isn't finalized, a successful negotiation could lead to a theatrical release in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022 and inspired by Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article, features a script co-written by James Gunn and stars Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was completed but shelved, prompting a dedicated fan campaign to save it.
Ketchup Entertainment, known for rescuing films from oblivion, recently saved Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate. This film, the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to receive a theatrical release, was praised by IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, they co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
