The acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which has garnered an impressive 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for its much-anticipated second season. The excitement is palpable as Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pivotal character John Blackthorn, has confirmed his return not only as the lead but also stepping into the role of co-executive producer, as announced in an official FX press release.
Adding to the stellar lineup, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga and signed on for Season 2 last May following the show's renewal from its limited series format, has been elevated to executive producer after contributing to the original run. The production of Season 2 is slated to commence in January 2026, with the crew returning to Vancouver, the original filming location.
FX has described the forthcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" distinct from the first season, which was based on James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the narrative connection between the two seasons:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."
Fans eagerly await the continuation of this exceptional series, with hopes set on seeing new episodes by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation and excitement continue to build.
