PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Games emphasizing reflex-based movement or fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad input. This is especially true for franchises originating on consoles and later ported to PC.
While many PC releases offer keyboard and mouse support, certain titles shine with controllers. The recent release of several high-profile games in late 2024, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force, demonstrated that many titles are better suited to keyboard and mouse. Even Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, while playable with a gamepad, doesn't show a significant advantage.
Several upcoming PC game releases in early 2025 appear promising for controller use:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port similar to Monster Hunter, suggesting controller compatibility.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently performs better with gamepads.
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its predecessor, a controller is likely preferable.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port, hinting at a controller-focused experience, though keyboard and mouse may also be suitable.
A 2024 Soulslike game has also been added to this list. See the link below for details.
