In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, The Tournament is a thrilling source of XP, offers a rewarding achievement, and is an absolute blast. Here’s how to conquer The Tournament and earn the “Test Your Might” trophy in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.
How to Unlock and Find The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, The Tournament quest is initiated by Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout, eager to discuss the tournament. This clandestine fighting arena is situated in Southeastern Yamato at the Ominesanji Temple. To the west of the area, there's a viewpoint called the Ominesanji Overlook, which you should synchronize to establish a fast travel point. We highly recommend doing this to facilitate easy returns to the location and character switching as needed.
Upon arriving at the Ominesanji Temple, speak with Gyoji again. He will inform you that you must participate in four one-on-one duels, followed by a showdown with the ultimate champion. After the cutscene, you can ring the bell to start the first fight.
How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The Tournament is a gauntlet of intense, life-or-death battles. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, as ringing the bell initiates the next duel. Use this time to heal with rations and upgrade or swap your weapons and armor as necessary.
To defeat each opponent in The Tournament, we recommend equipping Yasuke with a long katana and mastering the art of dodging and parrying to exploit their vulnerable states. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback whenever you have sufficient adrenaline.
Knowing the weapons each fighter wields can also give you an edge. Here’s a rundown of the opponents you’ll face:
- Lady Masago uses a Naginata.
- Lord Suguru wields a Katana.
- Lord Hokuto employs a Kanabo.
- Lady O-Sen fights with two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
- Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal if you keep your distance for too long.
After completing the first tournament, speak with Gyoji again on the hilltop. He'll express gratitude for his freedom and mention future tournaments. The "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock during this conversation.
Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Long Katana is the weapon of choice for The Tournament in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana you own and upgrade it to the maximum level at your hideout’s blacksmith. Adding an engraving that boosts Armor Damage or Armor Piercing can be a game-changer. However, your armor choice is crucial, as it not only increases your health but can also offer combat-altering engravings.
Before heading to The Tournament, ensure you've unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox from The Shinbakufu, and the Protector’s Armor from completing a Castle. The former provides a 75% damage increase but caps your health at 25%, while the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings into one armor set can help you dispatch The Tournament’s enemies in under a minute, provided you master parrying.
For skills, invest your Mastery points into the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees, prioritizing Combat Expert to enhance your melee damage, and unlocking Power Dash and Payback.
*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting March 20th.
