While awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation has significantly enhanced the experience.
This update boasts improved game stability and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay has been upgraded with shared item pickup and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also received optimization. Finally, the mod loader can now handle significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unparalleled customization compared to previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the team's commitment to broad accessibility.
Players will have extensive control over enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other gameplay elements like pacing, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirmed that prior DOOM experience isn't required to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
