CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Ciri will take center stage in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, marking a significant and logical progression in the storyline. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explained that the shift from Geralt to Ciri stems from both the evolution of the game series and the narrative framework established in Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.
Mitrega highlighted that Geralt's narrative arc concluded in The Witcher 3, setting the stage for Ciri to step into the spotlight. With her rich backstory and development across the books and previous games, Ciri offers a wealth of creative opportunities for the developers. Director Sebastian Kalemba pointed out that Ciri's younger age allows players greater flexibility in shaping her character, a freedom that was not possible with the more established Geralt.
Interestingly, the idea of switching the protagonist to Ciri was under consideration for nearly a decade, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for her as Geralt's successor. Kalemba also mentioned that the fresh challenges and perspectives Ciri will encounter will contribute to crafting an epic new saga.
Actor Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has voiced his support for this transition, emphasizing Ciri's vast potential as the new lead. While Geralt will make an appearance in the game, he will no longer be the central focus, thus reinforcing the shift in narrative perspective.
