Marvel Comics is set to reboot its flagship Captain America title, unveiling a new creative team and a compelling narrative focusing on Steve Rogers' early days post-thaw. This fresh take will even feature Captain America's very first encounter with Doctor Doom.
As announced at the ComicsPro convention, Chip Zdarsky (renowned for his work on Batman and Daredevil) will pen the series, with Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers) providing the art and Frank D'Armata handling the vibrant colors. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on Marvel's 2017 2-in-One.

The series kicks off shortly after Steve's rediscovery in the contemporary Marvel Universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves a collaboration with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the story will eventually transition to the present-day Marvel setting, the events of this inaugural arc will significantly impact the overarching narrative crafted by Zdarsky and Schiti.
Zdarsky shared his enthusiasm, stating, "Being a lifelong Captain America fan, this feels like a dream! We're exploring Cap's early modern era adventures with a surprising twist. I'm thrilled, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible artwork!" He further elaborated on his approach, aiming for a grounded, human portrayal of Cap, emphasizing his inherent goodness.
Schiti expressed similar excitement, highlighting the opportunity to revisit the character and explore Steve Rogers' internal struggles. He noted the compelling nature of Zdarsky's script, promising a story that will deeply resonate with readers. He emphasized the immense pressure on Steve, considering his experiences and relatively young age during the era depicted.
Captain America #1 is scheduled for release on July 2nd, 2025.
