Capcom announces a remastered edition of the original Dead Rising game, titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. The news follows a nearly decade-long hiatus for the franchise after the release of Dead Rising 4 in 2016. That installment, along with the mixed reception it received, likely contributed to the franchise's prolonged absence.
While the original Dead Rising (2006) was initially an Xbox 360 exclusive, an enhanced version arrived on other platforms a decade later, preceding Dead Rising 4. In the intervening years, Capcom focused heavily on the Resident Evil franchise, releasing acclaimed remakes and new entries. This success arguably overshadowed Dead Rising's more action-oriented style.
The recently unveiled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was announced via a brief YouTube trailer showcasing the game's opening sequence. While specifics like platforms and release date are yet to be confirmed, a launch later this year is anticipated.
Capcom's Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Despite a 2016 enhancement for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this remaster promises improved performance and visuals. The announcement raises questions about potential remasters of subsequent Dead Rising titles. However, Capcom's approach suggests that full-scale remakes, similar to those seen in the Resident Evil series, are unlikely. This strategy likely reflects the proven success of the Resident Evil remakes and avoids potential resource conflicts. The possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains open.
2024 has already seen a number of successful remasters and remakes, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Braid: Anniversary Edition, and Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launch this year, it would join other Xbox 360-era remasters such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP, and Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.
