Despite requiring players to sign NDAs to keep details of EA's upcoming untitled Battlefield game under wraps, the project leaked online anyway, with numerous videos and screenshots surfacing, showcasing activities from the game's closed playtests. When the leaks emerged, the footage appeared to confirm the "modern" setting hinted at earlier by Vince Zampella, setting it apart from previous entries in the series. A glance through the Battlefield subreddit revealed plenty of intense firefights, along with glimpses of the game's destructible environments and new mechanics such as hanging off vehicles and dragging wounded teammates to safety.
What stood out most, though, was EA's relatively relaxed stance toward the leaks. Typically, publishers are quick to remove unauthorized content due to the possibility of incomplete animations, UI elements, or subpar visuals in early gameplay. This time, however, despite players breaching their confidentiality agreements by sharing videos and images, EA hasn’t taken immediate action.
This approach might stem from the positive reactions from fans, who seem satisfied with what they’ve seen so far, unlike the mixed response to Battlefield 2042.
One player cautiously expressed optimism, saying, "I am scared to say it, but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches..." Another added, "The animations of the weapons while running or doing anything look better than 2042 to me." An excited fan exclaimed, "Even in pre-alpha, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles flying around, buildings crumbling, and dust rising—it has so much potential!" Someone else chimed in, "I can’t get over how good the sounds and destruction look at this stage."
EA anticipates its next Battlefield game will launch during the fiscal year 2026, meaning it could release anytime between April 2025 and March 2026. Since the first official announcement last month, we now know the new entry will reintroduce a traditional, single-player, linear campaign—a welcome change for fans disappointed by its absence in Battlefield 2042.
