Bandai Namco has made the tough call to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile, which is quite ironic considering that the legendary icon is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. This particular version of the game, which hit the market over a decade ago and was initially known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, brought more than just the classic arcade vibes to the table.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were already discontinued as of April 1st. If you're still enjoying the game, you have until May 30th to continue playing.
Many players have voiced their disappointment over Bandai Namco's decision to completely shut down the game rather than converting it to an offline version. An offline mode would have kept the game alive and could have continued to generate revenue.
PAC-MAN Mobile offered more than just nostalgia. In addition to the iconic 8-bit arcade mode, it featured a Story Mode with a variety of original mazes to navigate. The Adventure Mode included limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. Additionally, the Tournament Mode offered weekly maze challenges with three difficulty levels. The game also boasted a range of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more, adding a personal touch to the gameplay.
The Reason
The decision to shut down the game likely stems from the accumulation of bugs and issues over the years, which have made the game increasingly problematic. I recall the excitement during the initial years of its launch on Android, where players were grinding for high scores and striving to climb the leaderboards. It was a fun experience back then.
If you're keen on experiencing PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
