The official announcement is here: a new Avatar animated series, titled Avatar: Seven Havens, is in production from Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Avatar, original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko revealed the new project. Avatar: Seven Havens will be a 2D-animated series spanning 26 episodes, focusing on a young Earthbender who emerges as the Avatar succeeding Korra.
According to a Nickelodeon press release, Seven Havens takes place in a world “shattered by a catastrophic event. A young Earthbender learns she is the next Avatar after Korra, but in these perilous times, that identity brands her as a destroyer of humanity, not its protector. Pursued by enemies from both the human and spirit realms, she and her long-lost twin must unravel the mystery of their origins and save the Seven Havens before the final bastions of civilization fall.”
Konietzko and DiMartino shared in a statement, “Creating the original series, we never envisioned the world would continue to grow decades later. This new chapter in the Avatar universe is rich with fantasy, intrigue, and an entirely new cast of compelling characters.”
Avatar: Seven Havens will be released as two seasons, with a 13-episode Book 1 followed by a 13-episode Book 2. Konietzko and DiMartino are co-creating the series alongside executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. The voice cast has not yet been announced.
This series marks the first major television project from Avatar Studios, which is also producing a full-length animated film centered on Aang. Scheduled for theatrical release on January 30, 2026, the movie will follow an adult Aang on a fresh adventure.
Alongside the series and film, Avatar Studios celebrated the 20th anniversary with announcements of new books, comics, concert tours, toy lines, and an upcoming Roblox game.
