Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released
A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Ubisoft titles, notably impacting the Assassin's Creed franchise. While fixes are now available for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, some players are still experiencing problems.
The Windows 11 24H2 update, boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+ PC integration, inadvertently caused launch failures and malfunctions in some games. Ubisoft swiftly responded with title updates for Origins (230 MB download) and Valhalla (500 MB download), restoring functionality for these titles via Steam auto-updates.
However, Assassin's Creed Odyssey remains affected, prompting Ubisoft to advise players to delay updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch is released. While previous hotfixes addressed critical issues in other Ubisoft games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance problems may persist.
The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. Although initial reports surfaced five months before the official 24H2 rollout, the issue wasn't fully resolved before the widespread update. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Despite this setback, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
