High-end prebuilt PCs often come with a hefty price tag, but savvy shoppers can snag significant savings during sales. Currently, Dell is slashing $1,000 off the Alienware Aurora R16 equipped with an RTX 4090, bringing the price down to just $2,899.99. This is a rare opportunity to get an RTX 4090 gaming PC under $3,000, a deal not seen in months. With standalone RTX 4090 cards climbing back up to around $2,000, building your own PC might not be as cost-effective as you think. Opting for a prebuilt PC like this also means you benefit from a comprehensive warranty.

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC boasts an Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The 14th gen Intel Core i9-14900KF is not only the top gaming CPU from Intel right now but also excels in productivity tasks. Known for running hot, it's effectively cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a robust 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
The RTX 4090 stands as the pinnacle of GPU performance, outclassing all competitors from both NVIDIA and AMD. As Chris Coke noted in his review, "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water... Until the rest of the pack can catch up, between its impressive hardware specs and its DLSS 3 AI wizardry, even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates that this card can crank out." With this card, you can play any game at 4K resolution with ultra settings and ray tracing, achieving high frame rates, even in the most demanding new titles like Black Myth: Wukong or Warhammer Space Marine 2. It's also the go-to choice for AI applications, thanks to its 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
A note on RTX 5000 series GPUs
NVIDIA's upcoming RTX 5000 series GPUs, set to launch at the end of January, promise even greater power. The RTX 5090 will likely be superior but at a steep price of $2,000 for the Founder's Edition, with potential availability issues. The RTX 5080, launching at $999, may also face supply constraints. Although the RTX 5080 will have less VRAM (16GB vs 24GB) than the RTX 4090, we'll be benchmarking it soon to see how it stacks up.
A note on Alienware's newest "R16" desktop chassis
Alienware's 2024 R16 desktop chassis is 40% smaller than its predecessors while maintaining efficient airflow. Air is drawn in through side intake vents over the GPU and a front 120mm fan, then exhausted via a rear 120mm fan and two top 120mm fans. The 240mm radiator for the liquid cooling system is mounted to the top fans. While some configurations lack this liquid cooling, we typically recommend it due to its superior performance over Alienware's air cooling solutions. Note that Dell unveiled a new Area 51 chassis at CES 2025, which closely resembles the R16 in design and appearance.
