For those needing a refresher on the original *Happy Gilmore*, here’s Netflix's recap:
At the end of the original Happy Gilmore, Sandler’s titular character was finally at peace after a challenging golf season and a memorable scuffle with Bob Barker from The Price Is Right. Driven by the need to pay off his grandmother's back taxes, the former hockey player turned to golf, becoming the most unconventional player the Tour Championship had ever seen.
Throughout his journey, Happy formed alliances with the late Carl Weathers as the one-handed Chubbs Petersen and a homeless caddy portrayed by Allen Covert, while facing off against adversaries like Christopher McDonald's smug Shooter McGavin and Bob Barker. Against all odds, Happy triumphed, proving the golf elitists wrong, saving his grandmother's home, and returning home victoriously.
While it's not yet clear how Happy Gilmore 2 will revive his golfing career, one thing is certain: Happy Gilmore has become a legendary figure, even among the world's top golfers.
News of *Happy Gilmore 2* first surfaced in March 2024, with Netflix officially green-lighting the sequel in May. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck, with the screenplay penned by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
