It weighs 7.5 pounds and is 0.85 inches thick at its thinnest point. Equipped with a 360W power brick, it's recommended to keep it plugged in during use. The smaller size means it houses a 16" display and a standard-sized laptop keyboard without a discrete numpad or ethernet jack. However, it can still be configured with top-tier components, including an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, thanks to its robust cooling system.
Four models are available at discounted prices for Memorial Day. The $2,850 model comes with RTX 5070 Ti mobile graphics, the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models feature RTX 5080, and the $3,650 model is equipped with the high-end RTX 5090.

The Alienware Area-51 is equipped with the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, which boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz, 24 cores, and a 40MB L2 cache. According to Passmark, this CPU is among the fastest mobile processors available, rivaling the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.
Notebookcheck reports that the RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU is a worthy successor to the RTX 4070, matching the performance of the RTX 4080. Meanwhile, the RTX 5070 offers performance similar to the RTX 4070, suitable for running any game smoothly at the native 1920x1200 resolution.
Tom's Hardware notes that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU is 15%-20% more powerful than its predecessor, the RTX 4080, and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. It offers great value compared to the more expensive RTX 5090, lagging only about 15% behind despite being nearly $1,000 cheaper. With the Alienware Area-51's QHD+ (2560x1600) display, the RTX 5080 can handle new and upcoming games at high frame rates, especially when supported by DLSS 4.
The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling
For 2025, the Alienware Area-51 introduces a magnesium alloy chassis with enhanced cooling features to manage the latest high-performance components. This includes additional fans, larger cutouts for better airflow, increased use of copper, and a new thermal interface material for efficient heat dissipation. Dell claims the laptop can maintain a high power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.
The Area-51's design emphasizes smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, deviating from the typical squared-off design. The hinges are mostly internal, nearly invisible, and the laptop offers extensive RGB LED lighting customization options. Connectivity includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16" model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18" model weighs 9.6 pounds.
