Big news for fans of the Now You See Me series: Lionsgate has officially announced the third installment, titled Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, and confirmed that a fourth film is in development. The announcement came during CinemaCon from Adam Fogelson, the chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, who also assured that Now You See Me 3 will stick to its scheduled release date of November 14, 2025.
Director Ruben Fleischer, known for his work on Zombieland and Venom, has signed on with Lionsgate to helm both the third and fourth films in this action-heist franchise, which has already amassed $700 million at the global box office.
The original cast, including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Morgan Freeman, will be joined by a new generation of illusionists portrayed by Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt. Rosamund Pike is also set to star in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
Fleischer, who previously worked with Eisenberg and Harrelson on Zombieland, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Directing Now You See Me: Now You Don’t was as much fun as making any movie in my career. It combines two of my favorite things — heist movies and magic — and working with this incredible cast was truly magical. Of course, I want to keep it going."
Bobby Cohen, the original developer and producer of the series, will return to produce the new films alongside Alex Kurtzman of Secret Hideout. Meredith Wieck will oversee the project for Lionsgate.
Fogelson praised Fleischer's work, saying, "Ruben has delivered all of the twists and turns and sleight-of-hand that audiences expect from this franchise while upping the stakes and scale in every way. We can’t wait for audiences to discover what he’s done with the third film and are thrilled he’ll be making even more magic with us."
Despite the excitement surrounding the new films, IGN's reviews of the previous installments were less enthusiastic. The first film received a 6.3/10, with the review stating, "Now You See Me seemed so promising, but it squanders its cool cast and nifty premise on smarmy, shallow characters and a flimsy, nonsensical plot." The sequel, Now You See Me 2, scored a 6.2, with the review noting, "Now You See Me 2 isn't the worst magic act in town, but it's all flash and no substance."
With the franchise continuing to expand, fans can look forward to more thrilling heists and magical performances in the upcoming films.
