Tichu: A Thrilling Card Game Blending Bridge, Daihinmin, and Poker

Tichu, a captivating card game for two teams of two, combines elements of Bridge, Daihinmin, and Poker. Partners strategically collaborate to score points and achieve the target score, determined before the game begins. Played over multiple hands, the first team to reach the predetermined point total wins.

The 56-card Tichu deck features four suits (Jade, Swords, Pagodas, and Stars), each with cards 2-10, J, Q, K, and A. Four unique special cards – Dragon, Phoenix, Hound, and Mah Jong – add strategic depth.

Each player receives eight initial cards and can optionally declare "Grand Tichu" (a 200-point bet to be the first to empty their hand). After this declaration period, six more cards are dealt. Players can also declare "Tichu" (a 100-point bet for individual victory) before playing their first card. These declarations differ in timing and point values.

Following the initial deal (14 cards per player), a card exchange phase occurs. Each player secretly passes one card to each opponent and their partner, receiving three cards in return.

The player holding the Mah Jong card initiates the gameplay. Players can play valid combinations, with subsequent players either passing or playing a higher-value combination (exceptions exist for "Bombs," detailed elsewhere). Winning combinations follow standard hierarchical rules (e.g., a higher single card beats a lower one, a higher sequence of seven cards beats a lower one). The player with the highest combination takes the trick and leads the next round. A player "goes out" when they empty their hand. The round concludes when two teammates have gone out. Penalties apply if only one player remains with cards.

The game concludes when a team accumulates or surpasses the pre-determined point total.
