"Silksong Playable at Aussie Museum in September 2025"

Author : Chloe Update:May 19,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong: the eagerly awaited game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been one of the most anticipated games globally, consistently topping the Steam wishlist charts. Although Team Cherry has only provided a broad 2025 release window, this museum event offers a tangible milestone for fans to look forward to.

Silksong will be a featured part of the Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI, which will not only allow visitors to play the game but also delve into its design and artistic direction through various displays. These exhibits will showcase the intricate details of the game, from the hundreds of sprites animating Hornet's movements and attacks to the logic behind its challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which is one of several design elements that will be showcased at the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Silksong set to be playable at the museum from September 18, speculation is rife about its potential release date. It's logical to assume the game might launch before this date, possibly as early as August. The anticipation continues to build as Silksong recently made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, confirming the 2025 release window and offering a fleeting glimpse of new gameplay. This was the most significant update on the game in years.

Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, Silksong has since expanded to include versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The game's development has been marked by intriguing teases, such as a mysterious chocolate cake recipe shared by Team Cherry at the start of 2025, which sparked hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
