Euchre is played with a 24-card deck. Two teams of two players compete against each other.

When a player names a suit as trump, they commit their team to winning most tricks. Scoring one point for three or four tricks and two points for all five tricks, failure to win three tricks results in being "euchred," rewarding the opposing team with two points.

A confident player with a strong hand can "go alone," attempting to win all tricks without their partner. The partner sits out, and a successful lone hand scores four points. Winning only three or four tricks scores one point, while failure still gives the opponents two points.

A key rule in Euchre is that you are not forced to play a trump card unless it's the lead suit, but you must follow suit whenever possible.
