DOT'S HOME is an immersive single-player, 2D, narrative-driven video game that takes you on a profound journey through time. As a young Black woman living in Detroit, you inhabit your grandmother’s cherished home and embark on a poignant exploration of your family's history. Through time travel, you'll relive pivotal moments where the intersection of race, place, and home presents you with challenging decisions that shape your family's legacy.
This interactive experience offers a unique perspective on the systemic issues that influence our understanding of race and place. By placing you in the shoes of those directly affected, DOT'S HOME challenges you to navigate scenarios involving redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification. The game poses a critical question: "How did your family end up where they are today, and how much choice did they really have in that journey?"
DOT'S HOME is brought to you by the Rise-Home Stories project, a collaborative effort between multimedia storytellers and housing and land justice advocates. Over the past three years, this team has worked to reimagine the narratives surrounding our communities' past, present, and future, fostering a deeper understanding and transformation through storytelling.
