The Digital Revolution of Devarattam App
This app, developed as part of my "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" project, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of Devarattam. I honor Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (retired teacher), Kalaimani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti—recipients of the Kalaimani, Kalaimani, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards, respectively—for their contributions to Devarattam. This app also pays tribute to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the beloved legends of Devarattam.
The app aims to showcase Devarattam and its accomplished artists. Devarattam is a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu, historically and currently performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. While the dance features 32 to 72 steps, 32 constitute the fundamental movements, with the others being variations.
Devarattam dancers gracefully perform, each holding a kerchief and wearing salangai (ankle bells), accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.
