The formation lap is nearly complete. As you gently press the throttle and sharply turn the steering wheel one final time, left to right, you work to keep your tires at an optimal temperature. You know it’s crucial for nailing that all-important first corner—your chance to overtake the two formula cars ahead and rocket up the grid.
Now it's time to lift off the gas and focus. Your eyes lock onto the yellow line marking your grid position. With careful pressure on the brake pedal, you inch forward just enough to meet the regulations, perfectly aligning your front wing with the white line of your starting spot.
You shift gears, moving the paddles on your steering wheel to disengage the clutch and drop from 2nd to 1st gear. The engine roars in anticipation as your car remains still.
The first red light illuminates. You’ve done this countless times—you know the drill. Your right foot begins to gently tap the gas.
Second red light comes on, and the RPMs climb toward the limiter.
