Japanese Mahjong is an engaging game that follows a unique set of rules, distinct from other Mahjong variants. In this version, players interact with the game using a Slider on the screen to select and then tap to discard tiles. The objective is to complete a winning hand, which consists of four Melds and one Pair. An example of a valid hand could be: \[1, 2, 3\]\[6, 6, 6\]\[6, 7, 8\]\[N, N, N\]\[4, 4\].
However, certain hands are not valid if they involve Chi (sequence), Pon (triplet), or Open Kan (quad). Players need to be cautious, especially when considering Chi and Pon with the tiles 1 and 9. In Japanese Mahjong, achieving at least one Yaku (scoring element) is essential to win.
Players can declare Reach, which involves paying 1,000 points and committing to a closed hand, thereby increasing the potential for higher scores. It's important to note that Reach cannot be declared if a player has already performed Chi, Pon, or Open Kan.
A concept known as Lost Hand occurs when a player is Waiting (ready to win) but cannot claim a win from another player's discard because they have already discarded a winning tile. Even with a Lost Hand, a player can still win by self-drawing the necessary tile. The key strategy is to avoid being Ron'd (winning from another's discard) by the opponent, especially with tiles you have previously discarded. To succeed, players must carefully analyze opponents' discards to deduce their hands and strategize their wins accordingly.
